A major South African enterprise running critical, high-availability digital services on-premises needed a defence stack that wouldn't buckle under heavy traffic or targeted cyber threats. The challenge
Back in 2021, downtime or degraded performance was an unacceptable business risk for the client. They needed to lock down multiple public-facing domains, handle massive spikes in web and DNS traffic and boost app speeds. Crucially, the security layer had to slot directly into their existing on-premises hosting setup without disrupting daily operations.
The Initial Requirement
RW CS audited the client's environment and crafted a Cloudflare Enterprise deployment focused on immediate relief. We shielded and accelerated their web services using Cloudflare CDN and Argo Smart Routing for intelligent traffic management, alongside a Web Application Firewall (WAF), advanced DDoS protection, DNS security and managed certificates to stop attacks at the edge. This built a resilient, high-speed buffer between raw internet traffic and their core on-premises servers.
Expanding Protection Across the
Enterprise Network
With their public web layer secured, the client asked RW CS to extend protection deeper into their broader network infrastructure, scrubbing bad traffic before it ever reached their hosting environment. RWS designed and deployed Cloudflare Magic Transit featuring redundant GRE connectivity, network-level DDoS protection, Managed DNS and DNS Firewalling. Tying these tools seamlessly into their existing WAF and caching setup created a unified security and performance layer across their entire operational footprint.
The Results
What started as a targeted project to protect key websites evolved into an end-to-end enterprise connectivity platform. By taking a phased approach, the client addressed immediate vulnerabilities first, proved ROI and scaled their defence setup without breaking existing workflows.
